You can explore the coast, the river and the nature reserves from your base at Nikau Bay Camp.

Ngunguru Sandspit

We are next door to the Ngunguru Sandspit; a unique 83ha coastal wilderness reserve, graced with 1.6 kms of spectacular, safe ocean beach swimming just 15 minutes walk from Nikau Bay.

River Activities

Kayaking,  snorkelling, surfing, exploring, swimming and fishing are just some of the many river activities close at hand.

There are coastal bush, sand dune and beach walks within easy reach of the camp.

Goat Island

Goat Island is not an Island but joined by a stunning sandy beach and wilderness that can only be reached by a 50 minute bush/beach walk from Nikau Bay.

Dumpers Bay

Is a gorgeous bush clad bay just 35 minutes walk from Nikau Bay.

Mussel Rocks

While the mussels on these rocks are small the are delicious. Pick only the bigger ones. Definitely a low tide activity.

The sandspit can produce some fantastic surf breaks for beginners on the main beach. For experienced surfers the Ngunguru Bar has good long left hand breaks.

The Ngunguru Store

Bobs Store is well stocked, carrying most goods you’ll need during your stay. You can call them on (09) 4343 858

Historic Horn Point Cemetery

This small bush reserve hides an old colonial cemetery reached only by river. It has a short 10 minute loop track that takes you past the old plots.
